Choosing the right tarpaulin for your truck is one of the most important decisions a transport operator can make. The wrong choice can lead to damaged cargo, compliance issues, and costly replacements. In South Africa's diverse climate — from Highveld thunderstorms to coastal humidity — the stakes are even higher.

Understanding PVC Grades

PVC tarpaulins are rated by weight per square metre. The three most common grades we supply are:

Key Factors to Consider

1. Load Type

Are you carrying loose aggregates, machinery, or perishable goods? Heavy or abrasive loads demand 700g PVC, while general cargo does fine with 600g.

2. Frequency of Use

A tarpaulin that gets rolled and unrolled daily needs high tear resistance and reinforced eyelets. Look for welded seams and rust-proof brass or aluminium eyelets.

3. UV Exposure

South Africa's sun is intense. All our PVC grades are UV-stabilised, but if your truck parks outdoors permanently, opt for a higher grade with a longer UV warranty.

4. Custom vs Standard Sizing

Standard sizes are more affordable but a poor fit can allow water ingress and wind flap. Custom-made covers fit perfectly, last longer, and look more professional.

Maintenance Tips

Even the best tarpaulin needs basic care to reach its full lifespan:

Our Recommendation

For most South African truck operators, a 600g PVC tarpaulin with welded seams, reinforced corners, and stainless eyelets is the sweet spot. If you run tipper trucks or carry heavy aggregates, step up to 700g.
